Department Overview

 Support Service is a non-medical department consists of nine (9) departments lead by Support Service Director Mr. Awad Al Fartish. The primary objective of Support Service is to ensure operational demands are satisfied (within the available resources) through its various sub departments. Management and control of day to day routine operations is the responsibility of the respective sub department head.

 However, the Support Service Director provides direction and support on operational issues. Support Service provides a comprehensive service through its sub departments to all areas of the Armed Forces Hospital Programme, Southern Region (Fahad, Faisal) in two different locations. The full range of services provided includes the following department:

Catering

  The Catering Department provides Food Service to in-patients, Murafiks, hospital employees and Moda personnel through the following catering outlets:

Patient’s Kitchen (Fahad – 274 in-patients, murafiks and clinics)

Patient Kitchen (Faisal- 110 in-patients, murafiks and clinics)

Staff Cafeteria (Iskan 1 – All hospital staff)

Staff Cafeteria Recreation Center (Faisal- All hosp[ital staff)

Staff Cafeteria (Fahad – Hospital staff & visitors)

The department also extends its services for special occasions for Programme Visitors, Department Lectures and hospital civilian employees.


 
 

Houskeeping

  The Housekeeping departments render cleaning services to all buildings located at Fahad and Faisal, Peripheral Clinics and some accommodation building. The department operates a 24/7 cleaning service in three shifts basis; morning shift, afternoon shift and night shift. Due to the nature of services provided the housekeeping department interacts with most hospital departments. This department consist of 142 employees; one of the biggest department in Support Service.


 

Housing

  Housing department is responsible in providing accommodation of all expatriate hospital employees. At present there are several compounds where the staffs are allocated according to the position and status:

72 Apartments (Fahad_ Family Military Personnel)

  Additional five buildings will be opened shortly three for single female, two for family accommodations. The department main objective is to make sure that all staff needs in regards to their accommodation are provided from the first day of arrival. Providing accommodation for the programme guest is also under the responsibility of housing department. Some villas are reserved especially for VIP and other hospital guest.


 
 

Laundry

  Laundry department offers linen washing service for both Fahad & Faisal hospitals. Soiled linen is collected every half an hour from wards in Fahad and six times a day in Faisal. Laundry maintains the optimum quality of service by following the correct procedures timing and policy in issuing the linen to wards. Uniform for all hospital staffs are issued from laundry department threes sets on arrival and reviewed after one year or before depending on the quality.


 

Motorpool

  Motorpool department is responsible to ensure the operation demands of the hospital transport fleet are satisfied by proper maintenance, servicing and safety checks of all hospital vehicles. Any vehicle breakdowns are reported in this department to carry out repairs within minimum time limit without any interruption to service provided. On-call vehicle mechanic is available for 24 hours to respond for emergencies inside and outside of the department’s normal working area. As this is a very sensitive department Motorpool staff is recruited on the basis of education, experienced and qualifications.

 


 
 

Portering

  Portering department provides service in both hospital Fahad and Faisal. Porters are responsible in collection of laboratory specimens, blood samples, transporting patients in needed destination, transporting the morgue of patient after death and collection of mail, sorting and delivery. The department has two offices with photo copy machines to carry out copying of documents, forms, memos etc., for all departments.

 

Recreation

  Recreation department serves as a vital and integral part of staff life in hospital. The mission of the department is to provide a broad spectrum of sports recreation and leisure activities for staff as well as members of the family. The primary direction is to provide services and program that stimulate growth development and retention of staff in contemporary and safe environment that develop fitness and wellness, social interaction and leadership opportunities.

The department also offers the following program like Lawn Tennis lesson, swimming lesson, Weight Training lesson, Aerobics, Basketball lessons, Billiard and Table Tennis lesson for all staff and their dependents.

Indoor and Outdoor sports tournament such as; Men’s Basketball, Men’s Volleyballs, Men’s Billiard, Men’s Table Tennis, Men’s Badminton, Men’s Lawn Tennis Men’s Cricket, Ladies Volleyball, Ladies Lawn Tennis, and Ladies Badminton.

Recreation department also welcome the teams from outside to participate to all tournaments held inside the hospital. Some tournaments in the past were very successful which attract more teams from outside companies. The department also offers additional service from barbers and hairdresser, computer with internet connection for rent and monthly trip held every weekend for the hospital employees.

  The mission of this department is to provide an efficient transport service that satisfies its employees in accordance with approved policies and procedures in fulfilling the programme requirement. Transport Manager is responsible for coordinating all day to day activities to ensure operational demands placed on his department are satisfied. The department operates a 24-hour transportation service and the following services are provided to the programme employees;

Pleasure outings (on request)

Tehama International School

The school was opened in September 2002 to provide an internationally recognized education for the children of the expatriate employees of the Armed Forces Hospital Southern Region. It began with the Key Stages 1 & 2, extending first into Key Stage 3.

   The curriculum in Key Stages 1-3 adheres as closely as possible to the National Curriculum of England. The students will be admitted to all the statutory examinations associated with that curriculum. In Key Stages 4 & 5 students follow Cambridge International Examinations and the syllabus for these.

   The school is officially recognized by the relevant authorities of the kingdom and the UK. The pupils are from a wide range of cultures and countries but share a common grasp of English, which for many is their first language. English is the language of instruction throughout the school.

 

Plan and Location

   The school is accommodated in a modern two-story building within the hospital cantonment, with two small rooms at the side. At present a new extension is being built, which initially provide a Science Laboratory, two classrooms and more toilets. There are seven (7) large classrooms as well as the usual ancillary accommodation. The school grounds have shaded areas, tables and chairs where the children may play and take their snack, plus some swings for the younger children.

 
Curriculum

 The National Curriculum of Englands & Wales is taught throughout the school. Currently the school has school groups from Reception up Year 12. The school will develop into Year 13 commencing in September 2010. National Curriculum SATs test are taken at the end of KSI, 2 and 3. IGCSE Subjects offered are English as a First language, English as a Second language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, ICT, and Geography, Arabic as a First language and Urdu as a second language. Subjects taught throughout the school are:

   Arabic is taught to all students in KS 1 & 2. After that the students chose Arabic or Urdu. In all years Muslim people are timetabled for QU’RAN Studies.

 

School Year

 The academic year begins in early September and is divided into 3 terms with holiday in December, April, and July/August. In addition, there are the Islamic Eid Holidays. Dates do vary slightly from year to year but can be expected to conform to this UK pattern of 3 terms.

 

School Day

 The school week commences on Saturday and runs until Wednesday. The school day is from 7:55 am – 3:05 pm. Staff is present from 7:30 am – 4 pm. Events during the year the school holds various events, to some of which parents are invited. These include Sports’ Days, International Evening, End of the Year Concert and Celebration of Achievement Awards. Staffs are drawn from variety of backgrounds, but all have knowledge and/or experience of the English system and teaching qualifications. The school seeks to hire staff of the highest quality with relevant experience where possible. The school operates an open door policy and parents are welcome. Appointments can be made through school secretary.
